The Halifax Kennel Club was incorporated by the Nova Scotia Legislature on April 6th, 1944. It has 89 Members boasting 21 Life Members.

Our Mandate:

The Halifax Kennel Club pledges to promote and encourage the welfare of the purebred dog: to use its best efforts to guard the interests of the owners and breeders of the purebred dog, insofar as canine matters are concerned; to conduct shows, tests and field trials; to raise money for the purpose of the Club by giving of any entertainment and holding of fairs, exhibitions or shows of any kind.

What We Do:

The Halifax Kennel Club holds 5 Championship Dog Shows and Obedience Trials per year at Exhibition Park during February and September; it provides its Membership a Mailing List in order to be in touch between meetings and is proud to note that our website was cited by a national canine magazine as 'Excellent' in the category of All Breed Kennel Club sites.

We hold an Education Booth at our spring and autumn shows and answer many questions pertained to our Club and dog sports in which the whole family can participate.

Our Drill Team:

Halifax Kennel Club Drill Team Members provide obedience demonstrations and pet visitations for the patients and staff of local Extended Care facilities. The elderly and the shut-ins really enjoy the benefits of having the canines visit on an annual basis. The Drill Team also performs at our shows and in public events supported by the Club.

Our Members:

HKC Members are involved in many dog sports: Conformation, Obedience, Rally Obedience, Agility, Tracking, Drafting, Freestyle and are equally committed to community work through service with their dogs as Therapy Dogs.  Many HKC dogs have Canine Good Neighbour and Temperament Test designations.

Club Support:

The Halifax Kennel Club supports other worthy causes - the Regional Junior Handlers' competition, Dog Legislation Council of Canada, the Atlantic Veterinary College, SPCA, and the 'Adopt A Vet' program.
