My wife Shirley and I have been married for 33 years and have two grandsons, one from each of our daughters.  After being fortunate enough to work for the Canadian Coast Guard for 36 years, I decided it was time to retire and devote my time to the things that interest me the most.    I spend a good portion of my time doing visitation on behalf of St. John Ambulance Pet Therapy and Therapeutic Paws Of Canada.  Additionally, I also mentor some of the new volunteers joining the St. John Ambulance Pet Therapy program and am the Team Leader for mainland Nova Scotia’s division of Therapeutic Paws Of Canada.

Cody (Carho Code Of The West) came to live with us, leaving his former residence, Carho Kennels in Yarmouth, when he was 2 .5 years old and his been a large part of my life.  I truly enjoy sharing his love with other people.  We began obedience training with Lietash Canine Academy the day after he came to live with us and over the next 2 years obtained our CGN certificate and completed the CD and CDX levels of obedience.  We also enjoyed learning how to do Tracking with Theeft K9 Academy and Agility with Lietash Canine Academy.

After working with the HKC Drill Team as a member of the team and as a Director, we joined St. John Ambulance as a Pet Therapy team and are still going strong as we complete our 7th year and over 500 visits.  Cody and I were the first team in the HRM to offer a Pet Reading program at a Dartmouth library.  Today, the program is now offered at 10 of the HRM libraries at part of the Therapeutic Paws Of Canada program called Paws To Read. (See us on the Therapy Link).
