Junior Handling Rules & Regulations (Conformation & Obedience)

The purpose of Junior Handling is to introduce and encourage youth to participate in the sport of purebred dogs, and to provide them with meaningful competition where they can learn, practice, and hone their skills and knowledge of the various breeds. Above all, it is an opportunity to enjoy the camaraderie of competing with those of a similar age.

Conformation:

Classes in Junior Conformation Handling competition shall be divided by age as follows:

(a) Pee Wee Class
(b) Junior Novice Class
(c) Junior Open Class
(d) Intermediate Novice Class
(e) Intermediate Open Class
(f) Senior Novice Class
(g) Senior Open Class

Obedience:

Classes in Junior Obedience Handling competition shall be divided by age as follows:

(a) Junior Novice A
(b) Senior Novice A
(c) Junior Novice B
(d) Senior Novice B
(e) Junior Open A
(f) Senior Open A
(g) Junior Open B
(h) Senior Open B

Judging in Obedience: 

The main emphasis in judging Junior Obedience handling competitions should be placed on smoothness and gentleness of handling. Handler and dog should present a team; the handler offering praise and the dog responding by working happily and eagerly. Harsh commands are unnecessary and must be penalized. Strict judging of handling techniques will be utilized, resulting in the development of good handling habits.

 

Best Junior Handler competitions:

Provincial/Zone:

Held once a year in order to select a Best Junior Handler for each of the CKC designated zones.

Nationals:

The National Competition (conformation) is to be held before December 31st of the year following establishment of eligibility. The winner of each provincial/zone competition will be invited to compete.  The winner of this competition will be declared the Top Canadian Junior Handler. A reserve winner will also be chosen.  First to fourth placements will be chosen. The first place winner of this competition will be declared Top Canadian Junior Handler, the second place winner will be declared the reserve winner.
